30 Years of Experience

After 30 years of unique and life-changing programs, YFI is once again in the process of renewal as it seeks to re-calibrate itself to serving new populations in ways today's young people find relevant and impactful.

Our Mission

Youth Futures International is dedicated to empowering and preparing children, youth, and young adults to shape their future with confidence and purpose. Through our diverse educational and experiential programs in sports, leadership, community service, the arts, public health, and medicine, we aim to unlock and maximize the full potential of young individuals. By fostering personal growth and development throughout our unique programs, we create a platform for forging a lifelong network of peers for support and friendship. Our ultimate goal is to equip young people with the skills and inspiration needed to become impactful, successful, and compassionate leaders who have a positive influence in their immediate communities and beyond.

I would say, absolutely, go on this trip. Whether you want to be a  doctor, a nurse, you get to see things you will never ever see.

Alyson J., College UMI Participant

Going on the UMI is one of the best opportunities you can go on if you want to go into a medical career.

Youth Futures International has always developed programs that are unique, impactful, and relevant. The following is a history of our programming for high school and college students.

The Safe Haven Project

Youth Futures International first began as The Safe Haven Project in 1994, a camp program designed to give children and youth diagnosed with HIV/AIDS a safe, supportive, educational, and fun experience.

Serve, Learn, & Empower

As the stigma of HIV/AIDS abated and a need for The Safe Haven Project camps waned, a high school student suggested we evolve into something new. In 2010, The Safe Haven Project rebranded as Youth Futures International and the Serve, Learn, & Empower program in Ghana was born. High school students as Ghana Team Members develop and implement leadership activities and public health lesson plans to educate and prevent diseases such as HIV/AIDS, Malaria, and Cholera as well as teach the importance of education as a means of empowerment.

YFI Soccer: Leadership Through Sportsmanship

Led by experienced high school soccer coaches, the YFI squad comprised of high school boy and girl athletes of all abilities advance their skills with our partners in London, England: The Millwall Lions FC and Queens Park Rangers FC. Our squad plays with and against academy level peers associated with each professional team. They learn what leadership and sportsmanship is all about in sessions with coaches, trainers, and team managers that cover strategy, nutrition, health, and sports psychology. Through the community programs of our pro team partners, the squad provides leadership as they work with children, at-risk youth, and those with developmental disabilities.

I have sent my daughter on various programs and for the money spent and what she got out of this program, it was the best money we ever spent on our daughter.

Doug Neal, Parent of a Ghana Team Member

If you're considering going on this program, I think you should stop considering and just make the leap forward. I definitely think it is one of the experiences that has changed my life. I definitely felt like YFI got me in soccer shape and soccer ready with skills. Having better touches on the ball when I came in really helped show to my coach I was ready for the college experience.

Kaylin Goncalves, Former YFI Soccer Team Member

We are proud to have sent three of our children to Ghana. The experiences our children had were unlike anything they ever encountered in their lives. Our children were completely immersed and accepted into the community and culture of the Ghanaian people. Our children were empowered, humbled and challenged. They returned home with a completely new and different perspective on what living in a global world is like.
